One-sheet

Torrent Sound is dreamy folk-pop centered around Copenhagen- based singer-songwriter Frederik Damhus. Acoustic guitars and intimate songwriting unfold through synths, saxophone and atmospheric, cinematic arrangements. The songs are about people in motion — the moments when we have to make a decision, let go of something familiar or find the courage to begin again. The debut album Helpless brings together ten songs written over more than a decade. Released on August 28, 2026, the album was produced by Alexander Grandjean, Joachim Ersgaard and Frederik Damhus, and moves between intimate, acoustic songs and larger, cinematic soundscapes.

Full bio

In 2023, Danish singer-songwriter Frederik Damhus closed two decades of musical collaboration and began something new. A single track called "I Do" caught the attention of producer Alexander Grandjean, who immediately recognized its potential. That moment sparked the creation of Torrent Sound—a sonic universe where hand-played acoustic instruments (guitar, harmonica, gentle saxophones) coexist with synths and cinematic arrangements, creating space for both intimacy and expansiveness.

Based in Copenhagen, Damhus approaches collaboration as invitation rather than instruction. He invites musicians whose instincts he respects to play what they hear, letting their ideas become part of the songs. Paired with co-producer Joachim Ersgaard and a circle of contributing musicians, this philosophy built the sound of his debut album Helpless, released in August 2026 after two-and-a-half years of development.

The album's lead single, "Colors," emerged from a lighthearted conversation about parenthood that gradually deepened into reflection. Damhus realized how his children had transformed his perception of the world, and the song became a thank-you note to the quiet moments that shift us. Built around acoustic guitar, dreamlike melodies, and Damhus' warm, textured vocal, "Colors" shows a songwriter finding significance in life's smaller turning points. The album dwells in folk-pop instrumentation throughout—warm acoustics, harmonicas, gentle saxophones—assembled into a nature-inspired landscape that drifts and drives. Arrangements move from stripped-back acoustic moments to larger atmospheric scenes, always with a human voice behind the instruments.

Lyrically, Helpless explores people in motion: the moments when we decide to let go of something familiar or find courage to begin again. Drawing from the Scandinavian restraint of José González and the atmospheric experimentation of Bon Iver, Damhus creates music that finds weight in quiet moments—a defining shift from his decades of earlier work.
